William
Winckler Bio
Writer, producer, director and
actor William Winckler comes from a
show-business background, as his father,
Robert "Bobby" Winckler,
was a well-know child actor in the
1930s and '40s. Following in his late
father's footsteps, William also began
his career as an actor, appearing on
such TV shows as "Remington Steele," "Knight
Rider" and "The Fall Guy." Winckler
also wrote and produced two syndicated
television series: the animated sci-fi
adventure "Tekkaman the Space
Knight" and the live-action comedy
program "Short Ribbs," starring
Billy Barty.
In
2001, William formed his own production
company, William Winckler Productions,
patterned in part after American
International Pictures (AIP) -- a
successful 1950s/1960s low-budget
production house -- to write, produce,
direct and act in his own cult films.
His first venture was "The Double-D
Avenger," a comedy reuniting
three famous Russ Meyer actresses:
Kitten Natividad, Haji and Raven
De La Croix. The film received copious
kudos, including a review in Variety
hailing the picture as "a cheerfully
silly ode to larger-than-life femininity." His
latest film, "William Winckler's
Frankenstein Vs. The Creature From
Blood Cove," is already receiving
similarly rave reviews, and is presently
scheduled for DVD release in early
October. It will be available in
the US through Amazon.com and other
retailers. |
